POLICIES, RULES, REGULATIONS
HAIR: We like long hair tied up in buns for ballet and at least a pony tail for other classes. If your child does not like it, we understand but make sure the hair is at least clean and neat with no head lice or fleas.
DANCE ATTIRE: We like the children to be in dance leotards and tights, or below the hip-bone, high cut booty shorts and micro-mini, crop tops, unless stated otherwise, below. We realize that can be a problem for some of you, so do your best to wear dance attire. If you cannot afford it, we understand. Just let us know.
SHOES:
Ballet - Any type of soft ballet shoes.. If you can't find a local store that sells ballet shoes, most discount department stores carry pink satin or pink foam ballet-styled slippers that work nicely for our classes. Please remember to add pink satin ribbons and tie in a nice bow.
Tap - Any style/brand of tap shoes. Taps attached are preferred.
Jazz - Any type of jazz shoe. If you cannot find them, or afford them, whatever works for the student and you.
Hip Hop and Cheer - Clean sneakers not used for the street is our preference.
Toe Dance - Toe shoes in pretty, baby girl pink for girls, black for boys.
Pageant Dance - Any shoe that you wear with your performance costume, including spike heels.
Tumbling - No shoes
Twirling - Clean sneakers not used for the street is our preference. Students will need to provide their own baton! Professionally balanced batons with a metal shaft and rubber ends are perfered, however we suppose the cheap plastic ones from the dollar store with the sparkles inside and long ribbons on the end will do, or you can use the baton that your grandma twirled when she was a high school majorette.
Modeling - 3" high heels
Charm - same as Modeling
River Dancing - You need to have tap shoes and a curly wig for class, as well as a kilt. Proper technique will be covered, such as appropriate arm flailing and staring down the audience.
TARDINESS - we understand that being late is sometimes unavoidable. Do your best to be on time.
ABSENCES - we understand that missing class is sometimes unavoidable. Do your best to be at all classes.
LEVELS & MOVING UP: Students do not move up to the next level according to the amount of years that they have studied dance. They must be able to execute proper technique for each movement to the fullest for that level. Once the teacher or director has determined that the student is ready to move up, then and only then will the student be moved to a higher level. Some students may take several years and others only one, according to natural ability, effort, and practice.
Of course, if your or your child is really unhappy with his or her level, we can arrange to move them to where you will both be happy. Your happiness is our goal.
CORRECTIONS & BEHAVIOR: We do our best to keep order in class but will not force your child to be good in class. We realize that it must be fun and if paying attention and not talking makes them unhappy, do not worry, we will not punish them for being themselves.
MUSIC SELECTIONS: We try our very best to pick out songs that all of the parents and children will enjoy. If, for some reason, you or your child does not like a song, please feel free to give us a list of what you would prefer. If many parents want changes, we will go with the majority.
COSTUMES: Costumes are free. We realize that you struggle with keeping your family in the latest fashion, and do not want you to do without nice cars, vacations, and all of the other luxuries of life so we will not charge you. We try our very best to pick out costumes that all of the parents and children will enjoy. If, for some reason, you or your child does not like a costume, please feel free to look through the costume books that we leave in the lobby and give us a list of what you would prefer. If many parents want changes, we will go with the majority.
CLOSINGS FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER: We will contact each and every student if we need to close for bad weather conditions. Please leave us all of the phone numbers that you want called and your emails. If you show up because we could not reach you, we will give you one class for free to replace the gas that you used coming out for nothing. We trust that you will tell us the truth about it.
----
Our school wants the students to be happy so we will sugar-coat and problems and issues, say what you and your child want to hear and do it with a smile.
If your child is good, he or she will be highly rewarded. If he or she is not, we will still tell them how wonderful they are. They need to feel good about themselves.
We will never hold your child to high standards. Why do they have to be expected to work hard for everything? The squeaky wheel gets the oil.
If your child is being lazy, disrespectful, rude or just plain can't shut their mouth and listen- we totally understand that kids will be kids so do not fear that we will discipline your little precious and will never be asked to leave class.
We believe that children are smart. We also believe that once a child can understand the word no, but why should they have to hear it?
If you feel that expecting your child to do 'work' in order to dance properly is asking too much for just a fun recreational activity, then you are right!
